Fellow Arnan Araza โ06 Receives Doctorate in Netherlands
The Upsilon Sigma Phi congratulates Fellowย ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐ปย ๐.ย ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ฎย '๐ฌ๐ฒย for completing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Geo-information and Remote Sensing at Wageningen University & Research (WUR), the Netherlands. WUR was recognized as the number one in Agriculture and Forestry and number two in Environmental Sciences in the QS World University Rankings for 2023. WUR was also chosen as the top university in the Netherlands for the 18th consecutive year.WUR's motto is "To explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life."
Fellow Arnan previously served as a Geographic Information System and Remote Sensing Specialist for a number of international and local institutions, including Deutsche Gesellschaft fรผr Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the World Bank Group, UP Los Baรฑos and Resource Environment, and Economics Center for Studies, Inc. (REECS). Arnan was also elected as a member of the Sangguniang Barangay in San Agustin, Bay, Laguna from 2007 to 2012. He is currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at WUR and contributing to the European Union projects Open-Earth-Monitor and SELINA.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry from UP Los Baรฑos in 2009 and ย obtained his Master of Science degree in Geo-information Science from WUR in 2018. His PhD thesis titled "๐๐ด๐ด๐ฆ๐ด๐ด๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต,ย ๐๐ฏ๐ค๐ฆ๐ณ๐ต๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐ฆ๐ดย ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅย ๐๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ดย ๐ฐ๐งย ๐๐ญ๐ฐ๐ฃ๐ข๐ญย ๐๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ-๐จ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅย ๐๐ช๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ข๐ด๐ดย ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ดย ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎย ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ต๐ฉย ๐๐ฃ๐ด๐ฆ๐ณ๐ท๐ข๐ต๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ" and was evaluated by the academic committee as "very good" (9.0 out of 10).
