As Rafael Policarpio ‘76, affectionately known as Raffy, approaches nearly a year since his retirement on December 15, 2023, it’s inspiring to see how he has transformed this phase of his life into a vibrant and fulfilling journey. Transitioning from a successful career in logistics, Raffy has embraced retirement not as an end but as a new beginning.
In the months following his departure from full-time work, Raffy has continued his passion for the logistics industry by consulting in the field. He has also founded Rafa Trading Philippines, a trading company designed to handle current and future business opportunities in the country. With one dedicated employee by his side, he is actively carving out a niche in the market.
Raffy also serves as the country representative for Deepchill Solutions Inc., a Canadian company specializing in innovative slurry ice technology for seafood. This role allows him to play a pivotal part in revolutionizing the seafood industry in the Philippines, a venture he approaches with great enthusiasm and commitment.
One of Raffy’s most ambitious projects is the development of a new port that is currently not under the Philippine Ports Authority. While this is a long-term vision, he is dedicated to seeing it through, understanding the profound impact it could have on trade and local communities.
Community engagement has become a cornerstone of Raffy’s post-retirement life. He is deeply involved in livelihood generation initiatives within a Barangay, working closely with local residents to empower them and create sustainable opportunities. With an eye toward eco-tourism, he is spearheading efforts to promote camping and trekking, set to launch in March 2025. This initiative aims to invite visitors to experience the natural beauty of the region while supporting local livelihoods, a cause that Raffy is passionate about.
Amidst these ventures, Raffy prioritizes his personal well-being. He makes time for leisure activities such as golf and pickleball, and he enjoys trekking and swimming. These pursuits offer him moments of joy and relaxation, striking a healthy balance amidst the busyness of entrepreneurship.
