DOH Sec. Ted Herbosa '78 Favors Legalizing Medical Marijuana

Published August 15, 2023

Department of Health Secretary Ted Herbosa recently revealed that he is in favor of the legalization of marijuana for medical use. He however, cautioned that he is not in favor of the cultivation and manufacture of marijuana locally because there are no checks and balances that currently exist to regulate it.

"It should be imported. If is imported, you could control it because it would still be regulated," Herbosa stressed.

The secretary added that medical cannabis is beneficial to those persons suffering from cancer, glaucoma and seizure disorders. He said that medical marijuana could be imported and made available for use by patients in the country through a "compassionate" special permit signed by the FDA.
