Pakil, Laguna mayor Vince Soriano announced that the National Book Development Board (NBDB) has chosen Pakil, Laguna as one of twenty-five new Book Nook sites in the Philippines for 2023. The recognition was presented to the mayor during the PANAGTAPOK Book Nook Conference held in Davao City last August 20, 2023.

The Book Nook project is an all-Filipino reading and story-telling space which is strategically placed in indigenous and remote sites around the Philippines and serves as a resource center for children, parents and teachers. The project is designed to nurture the culture of reading among the youth and encourages them to read critically and write their own stories.

"Dahil po dito, tatanggap ng libong mga libro at iba’t ibang NBDB programs ang ating bayan upang makatulong sa ating layuning palaganapin sa ating mga kabataan ang “Love for reading,” said the mayor.

The Pakil Book Nook site will be located on the second floor of the Pakil People's Center after it is transferred to Pakil's new Municipal Hall.

The NBDB awards Book Nook sites to applicant organizations who complete and pass rigorous requirements with focus on early childhood readership development, para-librarianship and community-centered partnerships. By being chosen as a Book Nook site, Pakil has been given the privilege of instituting and developing the community reading center aptly named Book Nook Pakil.
