Shootsilonian Brods Defend Title, Emerge Victorious in 2025 Battle of Fraternities Shootfest
The Upsilon Sigma Phi shooting team, also known as the Shootsilonians, successfully defended its title and emerged as overall champions of the Battle of the Fraternities shoot fest for the second year in a row. This year's competition was hosted by the fraternity at the Bureau of Corrections firing range on January 11, 2025.
The brods competed against the gun clubs of Alpha Sigma (U.P.), Utopia (Ateneo), Sigma Rho (U.P.), Lex Talionis (San Beda) and the U.P. Vanguards. The Alpha Phi Beta sent only one competitor. Absent from this year's competition was the Aegis Juris team from UST.
"It was pure domination by the Upsilon. There was no doubt that we will retain our title as the final match up in the team relay event was between Upsilon Team Alpha vs Upsilon Team Bravo. Team Alpha prevailed, while Team Bravo garnered 2nd overall. By winning the championship two years in a row, the Upsilon will permanently keep the championship trophy," said brod Boying Soriano '72.
Upsilon Relay Team Alpha was composed of Jay Santiago ‘93' Fil Sonza Jr 2022, Niño Albano 2022, Melo Juluague 2023 and Deo Marco 2024 while Upsilon Relay Team Bravo was composed of Dodie Lagman ‘66, Judo Bonifacio ‘78, Greg Catapang Jr ‘84, Zach Ruiz 2019 and MJ Comia 202.
Several brods emerged as champions in the 5 stages course of fire events (see list below for the individual awards).
In the man versus man competition, the Lex Talionis Fraternity of San Beda College finished one-two with Mark Mauricio beating out Jorge Brania for top honors.
The Battle of Fraternities shoot fest was first held on April 14, 2024, at the Armscor Shooting Range and was hosted by the Fraternal Order of Utopia. The Upsilon shooting team emerged as champion in the team relay event of the inaugural tournament.
