Japan Awards Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr.
On 22 October 2024, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya hosted the awarding ceremony of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation to Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., Professor and former Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), in recognition of his contributions to promoting agricultural academic exchanges between Japan and the Philippines.
Gracing the ceremony were former Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Mr. Alfredo Pascual, University of the Philippines (UP) President Atty. Angelo Jimenez, other officials and members of UP, friends and family of Dr. Sanchez.
During his remarks, Ambassador Endo expressed his admiration for Dr. Sanchez’s stellar accomplishments which have cultivated stronger ties between Japan and the Philippines. He especially praised Dr. Sanchez’s work in the international joint research programs, as well as his design of the Dr. Jose Rizal Centennial Marker in Hibiya Park, Tokyo. Ambassador Endo also praised Dr. Sanchez’s accomplishments as former Chancellor for establishing a Nagoya University Asian satellite campus in UPLB.Dr. Sanchez, a former Japanese Government (MEXT) scholar, likewise expressed his gratitude for receiving this award. He also anticipates the continued strengthening and flourishing of academic and agricultural ties between Japan and the Philippines.
The Government of Japan extends its sincere congratulations to Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez Jr. The Foreign Minister's Commendation is a testament to Dr. Sanchez's significant contributions to Japan-Philippines bilateral relationship.
