FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The USPAA Board of Trustees has appointed lawyer and businessman Javier "Javi" P. Flores '89 as the new editor in chief of the Upsilon Sun, replacing outgoing editor in chief Ricky Rionda '83. Javier Flores is the Corporate Secretary of the USPAA Board of Trustees for the 2025-2027 term.

'I am thankful to have been accorded the privilege to lead this publication and to help bring it back in circulation as a viable tool and comprehensive online newspaper which allows the fraternity to reach a broader audience and effectively disseminate news about our fraternity to our brother Upsilonians and to the outside world," said Rionda.

"As I turn the reins over to brod Javi, I am assured that the Upsilon Sun will continue to flourish and evolve in its mission to deliver news and information to our fellow Upsilonians, I wish the new editorial board much success," added Rionda.

Who is Javi Flores?

There are brothers who are as comfortable in the courtroom as they are in the boardroom of businesses. Still others are equally adept at photography as an art form. Others have a command of the written word. Javi Flores finds himself at the intersection of all these. Now, as he takes the reins as Editor-in-Chief of The Upsilon Sun, he brings with him a storied career in law, publishing, and journalism.

A Juris Doctor from the University of the Philippines College of Law, he is a partner at the Flores & Ofrin Law Office, with expertise in corporation law, property, and litigation. But beyond the courtroom, Javi has made a name for himself as a publisher and editorial force. Along with his wife, he is the co-owner of Milflores Publishing, a multi-awarded publishing house known for producing books that seek to elevate Filipino literature. He also founded League Magazine, a publication that spotlights the best governance practices of local leaders. Javi is also a two-time Mater Photographer of the Camera Club of the Philippines.

His editorial background is just as formidable. He was a former Associate Editor of the Philippine Collegian, the country’s oldest and longest-running student newspaper. Javi also served two terms on the Board of Editors for the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Law Journal.

In taking charge of The Upsilon Sun, Javi has one mission in mind: transformation. “We would like to build on the achievements of the past board of editors, which is remarkable and undeniable,” Flores asserts. “I am thrilled that we will have the opportunity to reimagine the Upsilon Sun into a magazine that will showcase the fraternity’s impact.”
