U.P. Promenade Rehabilitation Nears Completion
The rehabilitation of the U.P. promenade is almost complete with all necessary repairs, refurbishments and additions already done. The 2.9-million-peso project was spearheaded by the Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association (USPAA) and funded by residual funds budgeted for this purpose by the Centennial Committee in 2018.
First constructed in 2018 as part of the Upsilon Sigma Phi's 100th year anniversary celebrations, the Promenade has suffered from regular wear and tear, and lack of adequate maintenance and security protocols from the University. It was often vandalized, and its walkway tiles have fallen into disrepair with skateboarders frequenting the area.
The rehabilitation project began in October and is being managed by USPAA Vice President and Trustee, Gari "GT" Tiongco '91 through his Lopzcom Builders Corporation.
The project entailed the replacement of all tiles, strengthening of trusses, new roofing installation, concreting and Stampcreteing, repair of all damaged benches and replacement of rotted wood. In addition to this, all original engraved name plates and plaques that contain the names of donors to the Promenade have been replaced with a new and more durable brass material.
The U.P. Promenade had its soft re-opening in time for the 105th anniversary celebration of the fraternity, which was held last Monday, November 27, at the U.P. Bahay ng Alumni.
The USPAA will continue to supervise the maintenance and upkeep of the Promenade through its Flagship Projects Committee which is headed by Trustee Glenn Panganiban '97.
