Upsilon Medical Assistance Program (UMAP) Marks 30 Months of Service
by Dr. Alan Austriaco '86
November 2023 marks the 30th month since we started the Upsilon Medical Assistance Program, more popularly known as UMAP. When we started in June of 2021, your Medical Triage Team received a few calls, 7 to be exact, from Upsilonians and their families. It was a 'feeling out' phase, with not-so-many brods aware of the USPAA's latest venture.
Today, the UMAP has emerged as one of the Fraternity's most important projects. Since we started in 2021, Upsilonian MDs have assisted more than 500 Fellows, their family members and friends with their medical needs. We have also disbursed more than P1.5 million in financial assistance to brods burdened by the prohibitive cost of their medical requirements.
These would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our MD brods, who have generously given their time and expertise in addressing the health concerns of every Upsilonian in need. Hats off too to brods who have unceasingly answered the calls for donations, bringing us closer to achieving our goal of a Permanent Endowment Fund of P50 million.
To commemorate our 30th month, the UMAP Team will post a more detailed account of the cases we see monthly. This is to give the Fellowship a clearer picture of the work done by the Medical Triage Team and to provide the brods with a more comprehensive understanding of where their individual and batch contributions are going.
Editor's note: The detailed report of cases referred to the UMAP have been published in the various Upsilon viber groups and will not be published by the Sun for confidentiality reasons.
